Marine & Dock Wall Sconces

Sailfish wall sconce in oil-rubbed bronze, lit at night against a wall

Sailfish, oil-rubbed bronze, after dark.

Sailfish, anchors, lighthouses and palms, cut clean through heavy-gauge steel and finished by hand in Fort Lauderdale — which is to say, by people who know exactly what salt air does to a light fixture.

Built for the water, honestly described

Lit — the wall glows, the fish stays dark.

These are steel fixtures with a semi-gloss powder coat. That is a durable finish and it holds up well on a dock, under a soffit, along a canal wall or on the back of a house facing a channel. It is not indestructible in direct, unsheltered salt spray, and we would rather tell you now than replace fixtures later.

Three things decide how long a coastal installation lasts:

  • Shelter. Under an overhang or a soffit, powder coat lasts for years. Fully open to weather and spray, it works harder.
  • The acrylic top. On any fixture with nothing above it, add the sealed acrylic top at checkout. It keeps rain out of the housing.
  • A rinse. Fresh water over the fixture now and then, the same as you would do to a rail. It costs nothing and it makes the difference.

For the harshest positions — open pilings, an exposed seawall, a dock with nothing above it — we cut the same designs in uncoated stainless to order. Stainless is no longer a stocked finish, so it is quoted rather than listed. It patinas rather than fails.

The designs

Where these go

Marinas and slips, boathouses, dock walkways, yacht and fishing clubs, waterfront restaurants and tiki bars, canal-side patios, and the seaward wall of a house. The light throws up and down, so a run along a dock lights the walking surface without glaring at anyone approaching from the water.

Ordering a run

Most marine work is not one fixture. If you are lighting a dock, a slip row or a club frontage, order the run in one go: powder coat is cured in batches and colour can vary slightly between production runs, so fixtures made together match each other exactly.

Marina, club or waterfront property?

Bulk pricing starts at ten fixtures, and we cut custom designs from your own artwork — a club burgee, a boat name, a property mark.

Which size

The small suits a covered walkway, a boathouse door or a patio wall where you pass close to it. The large is the one for a dock, a pool deck or a seawall — any elevation read from across the water. At distance a small fixture simply disappears.
